Custom House
Conversion of a first-floor office space to form a 24 bedroom ward located above the fully operational A&E Department at Newham University Hospital.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Client: Barts Health NHS Trust
Contract Value: £2,200,000
Duration: 27 Weeks
Contract Type: JCT Intermediate with CDP
PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project was carried out within a live hospital environment which meant effective planning needed to be put in place, so as to not disturb the hospital’s daily activities. Deliveries needed to be scheduled for specific times and frequent ‘look ahead’ meetings with department managers to schedule when specific works were held to minimise disruption.
Working in a live environment we converted the original first-floor office space into a 24-bedroom ward as well as a reception, toilets, kitchen, staff room, cleaners cupboard and office spaces including new supplies and finishes with other key points being:
Extensive strip-out, asbestos removal and upgrade of fire protection throughout
New vinyl flooring, redecoration, joinery, ceiling, and fire doors
Full MEP services installation and construction of new external pile raft enclosure for AHU and chillers
