The demolition of an existing classroom building block and construction of the new teaching block at Heathside School, for Elmway Learning Trust under the Department for Education Framework Agreement.

Key Points:

• Demolition of existing school building

• Construction of the new build classroom block consisting of six classrooms, toilets and staff office spaces

• Upgrade works to the external area, including new tarmac, walkways and improved access

• Greenery planted at the building entrance and around the new walkways

• Large windows throughout the building to create a large, bright and spacious learning space

• Toilets installed with a unisex hand washing space; two sets of student lockers fitted in the corridors

• Staff office spaces were created at either end of the building for general administration, including the installation of new computers

• Works were delivered 2 weeks ahead of schedule

Key Challenges:

• Working within a ‘live environment’ for most of the project

• Restrictions to works were put in place between student drop off and pick up times, meaning deliveries and works had to be carefully planned around this

• Noisy works were approved beforehand to try to minimise disruption to the school
