Innovation & Technology Centre, Milton Keynes College
New Innovations and Technology Centre - 4 extensions to the Colleges ITC Building totalling around 400sqm.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Client: Milton Keynes College
Contract Value: £2,600,000
Duration: 10 Weeks
Contract Type: IFC 16 WCD
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The college had to limit the number of students that they could accept to their Engineering and construction courses because of the sheer lack of space in the classrooms and workshops. The brief was for a refurbished building that would be developed to very high standards in terms of sustainability and on par with the top 25% of such premises in the country.
In the longer term, the availability of increased workshop space will enable Milton Keynes College Group to develop a new curriculum which develops and adapts skills with an environmental and sustainability focus.
Working with PANDA CES (building services consultancy), we delivered the design and construction of the new ITC for Milton Keynes College. The re-development of an old secondary school provided the new engineering and IT centre. Taking the design from RIBA Stage 4 required us to ensure that there was close coordination and detailing of critical elements, for example, around penetrations, windows etc.
The project involved 4 extensions to the ITC Building totalling around 400 sqm. There are two extensions within the Brickwork Department, one at the rear of the building and one in an internal courtyard. Extension 3 is a rear extension to the Decorating Department. Extension 4 is an extension within the internal courtyard of the Carpentry Department.
After completing the ITC extensions scheme at Milton Keynes College, we offered to donate over £2000 worth of Tool Kits to the Construction Departments at the college. The kits consisted of 4 Draper Storm Force 20V Cordless 9-piece kits. This was arranged directly with MK College. The kits will be of great use to the Carpentry Department, specifically, and will benefit the learners greatly.
“We are so incredibly lucky to have organisations like T&B Contractors gifting us equipment which will help the learning experience of our students. In these difficult times we all face financial challenges and these offers of support are much appreciated.”
