St Blaise C of E Primary School, Milton

Delivery of a five-phase refurbishment of existing facilities within a live school environment.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Client: DFE/Oxfordshire County Council
Contract Value: £3,100,000
Duration: 61 Weeks
Contract Type: JCT Design & Build 2016

Delivered over five phases to allow the school to remain operational, we delivered a new build block and refurbishment of the existing facilities to allow St Blaise Primary School to double their capacity.

  • Phase 1: Construction of Temporary Access Road

  • Phase 2: Hard Play Surface & Car Park

  • Phase 3: Kitchen Extension and Fit-Out

  • Phase 4: New Classroom Block and External Areas

  • Phase 5: Main Entrance Extension and Internal Refurbishments Works

The new build block houses four classrooms, along with a staff room, library corner, toilets and shower/washroom. Externally, a new astroturf/sports pitch was installed along with new bike sheds. We proposed an alternative boiler system/radiator for the new building to the client, which resulted in a cost saving of £10k.

Throughout the project, we delivered 56 apprenticeship weeks for a Trainee Surveyor, who we went on to employ after the project was completed. Despite the restrictions of COVID-19, we organised a site visit for all of the students at the school with a Q&A session about their new building, construction safety and our delivery process. We created a temporary access road to the Bowls Club (adjacent to the school) to access our site compound; we tidied up the access road, cleared out all the shrubbery and left this in place for the Bowls Club to utilise going forward.

This afternoon we had our visit from our School Improvement Office, which was very positive. She loved the new building and said that it was the best new build she had seen. Thank you for being such a great team. Our new school is fabulous.
